Telemedicine vs. Telehealth

When thinking of medicine and technology a clinical professional can end up in a very confusing place.  Although the terms telemedicine and telehealth are often used synonymously, there is a slight difference between the two.

Telemedicine is generally thought of as a subset of telehealth that refers to the delivery of healthcare services and education remotely. Telemedicine involves the use of electronic communications and software to provide clinical services to patients without an in-person visit. This is what IntellaTriage has been providing for many years to its clients nationwide with its growing network of licensed nurses providing care to physician groups, hospice, home health and IDNs. Our Telemedicine technology is used for triaging patients on an as needed bases, providing follow-up visits, helping to facilitate chronic care management (CCM), prescription and medication management, and other clinical services that can be provided remotely via cloud based phone technology.

Telehealth and Triage

When discussing telehealth, this includes a broad range of technology, applications and services to provide the best patient care possible to improve care delivery. Telehealth is slightly different from telemedicine because it refers to many more services, than Telemedicine, that can be delivered remotely to patients while coordinating with nurses, physicians, insurers and family members. While telemedicine refers to remote clinical services usually delivered via phone, telehealth also refers to remote non-clinical services, health education, nurse and physician scheduling, store and forward capabilities, DME integration and video visits, in addition to nurse and physician delivered clinical services. Telehealth is what the world is moving towards and without actual live care on the other end of the application delivery of Telehealth services can fall short.

In the end, both are part of a greater effort to make health care management and delivery easier for patients and improve the efficiency and cost of the delivery of care. IntellaTriage has been specializing in nurse based care for over 8 years and has the largest network of nurses in the country, ready to delivery remote based care via traditional Telemedicine or more Technology driven Telehealth platforms.  Either way, our model involves not only the patient but live registered nurses on the other end of an an application or phone line that are integrated into a providers EMR and ready to give the best care possible.
